#39 of 357Magnetic Collar Stays
Personal photo: a set of magnetic collar stays laid out on a dress shirt collar, showing the thin metal strips and small round magnets beside a folded button-down.
Magnetic collar stays are a small upgrade that fixes the one problem with button-down shirts: the collar points curling up after a few hours. Stays are thin metal strips with magnets embedded at the tips, and matching magnets sit in small fabric pockets sewn into the underside of the collar. Result is collar points that stay flat all day without stiffening the whole collar, because the magnets only anchor the very ends. Original stays that come with most dress shirts are plastic and they slide around or fall out in the laundry. Replacing them with magnetic ones is a $12 fix you never think about again. Swapping them between shirts takes about 10 seconds. Magnets are strong enough to hold through oxford cloth and thin enough that you can not feel them when the shirt is buttoned. It's a genuinely clever piece of engineering for something that most people don't realize is a solvable problem.
