I listen to podcasts while falling asleep and the sleep timer on Apple Podcasts is the one feature that makes the app worth keeping over Spotify for this specific use. I can set it to stop at the end of the current episode or after a custom number of minutes and it fades the audio out gradually instead of cutting it abruptly. My friend uses Overcast for the same reason, the smart speed feature that trims silences. I like the simplicity of the native app since it's already on my phone and syncs across devices without a separate account. The habit is nightly, I pick a long-form interview or a history podcast and set the timer for 25 minutes, and most nights I am asleep before it ends. It has replaced scrolling in bed, which is a trade I am happy with. The dark mode interface is easy on my eyes at midnight and the queue system lets me line up 3 episodes so if I do stay awake it just keeps going. A timer is a small feature but it completely changes the experience of using the app at night.
