#308 of 357Patagonia Worn Wear Program
Press shot: A rack of colorful Patagonia fleece jackets and shells on hangers with Worn Wear price tags attached, displayed in a retail setting with natural wood fixtures.
Patagonia's Worn Wear program lets you trade in used gear for store credit and buy refurbished jackets and fleeces at half price. I got a Better Sweater for $60 that looks barely worn. Thrift stores have existed forever, but having the brand itself run the resale operation changes the dynamic. They guarantee repair quality. Sizing is accurate. Gear that might end up in a landfill gets a second life. Patagonia profits less per item on resale than on new sales, which suggests they actually believe in it rather than treating it as a marketing campaign. The website shows wear honestly, listing any stains or repairs instead of pretending everything is perfect. My friends have started checking Worn Wear before buying new. The shift in habit feels like the kind of behavioral change most brands talk about but rarely enable. Packaging arrives minimal, a recycled mailer with no tissue paper or branded inserts, consistent with the message. More companies should copy this model, but most won't because it requires admitting that your old product is still good enough to sell again.
