#302 of 357Bialetti Moka Express

Bialetti Moka Express makes stovetop espresso that's not real espresso but is close enough that I stopped going to the coffee shop every morning. At $35, the 6-cup model paid for itself in about 2 weeks. Design has not changed since 1933, the octagonal aluminum body with the little mustachioed man on the side. The fact that it still works this well after 90 years of production says more about its engineering than any product description could. I like the ritual of filling the bottom with water, packing the grounds into the filter basket, and waiting for the gurgling sound that means it is done. It's not convenient compared to a pod machine but the coffee tastes richer and the process gives me 5 minutes of not looking at my phone.
