Sonos Roam fits in my jacket pocket and sounds like it has no business being that small. With a low end that actually fills a room instead of tinning out the way most portable speakers do at high volume. I noticed the design is a triangle when you look at it from the end. So It sits upright or on its side and either orientation changes the sound profile slightly, a clever use of geometry I did not expect from a company known for home systems. Bluetooth pairing is instant and it remembers my phone so I never have to re-pair. It also works on WiFi as part of a Sonos system if you have one, which I do not, but the option is nice. What impresses me is that Sonos made a $170 speaker that sounds good enough to make me stop wanting a bigger one. I carry it to the park and to the kitchen and it has been rained on once and survived because the waterproofing is rated IP67. A speaker I don't have to worry about feels more useful than one I have to protect. The battery lasts about 10 hours which gets me through a full day of intermittent use. Matte finish picks up less grime than glossy speakers and the single button interface means I don't have to look at it to skip a track. Nothing flashy about it — it just works wherever I put it.
