#291 of 357Calm App Daily Check-In
Press shot: Calm app interface on an iPhone screen showing a daily check-in prompt with an emotion slider, set against a blurred background of dark blue mountains and a crescent moon.
Calm added a daily check-in feature where you log how you're feeling before and after a session. Seeing that data accumulate over weeks made me realize I actually use the app most on Sundays and Wednesdays, my hardest days. The interface is minimal, just a slider and a few emotion words. It takes 10 seconds, so I actually do it instead of skipping like I do with journal prompts. I trust the guided meditations more than random YouTube ones because the voice is consistent and the pacing doesn't rush. About 3 minutes in, I can feel my shoulders drop every time. My therapist recommended it, and knowing a professional stands behind it made me less skeptical than I would have been finding it on my own. Sleep stories are almost embarrassingly effective. I've never made it to the end of one. A wellness app that feels quiet and undemanding instead of gamified and pushy is rare. Restraint is why I've kept using it for 5 months now, when most apps last 2 weeks on my phone.
