Personal photo: Sunrise alarm clock on a bedside table glowing with warm amber light, next to a phone and a glass of water, in a dimly lit bedroom.

I want one of those alarm clocks that simulates a sunrise by gradually brightening a warm light over 30 minutes before your alarm goes off. Waking up to sound in a dark room feels violent, and I'm tired of starting every day annoyed. My friend has one and says it changed her mornings completely. She wakes up during the light phase before the sound even starts. Her room goes from pitch black to a soft amber glow that makes opening your eyes feel natural instead of forced. The concept is simple enough that it shouldn't cost $100, but apparently it does.
