Peloton's app has guided outdoor runs where a coach talks in your ear while you run, telling you when to push harder and when to ease up. I started using them because I couldn't figure out how to pace myself without someone external setting the rhythm. Voice coaching works because it adjusts to effort levels rather than specific speeds. When the instructor says to find your 7 out of 10 effort, that means something different for me than for someone who has been running for years. Both of us get a useful workout from the same audio. I want to get to the point where I don't need the prompts anymore. For now, the structure makes me run 3 times a week instead of once. Tracking that progression over 2 months in the app gives me a record of improvement I actually go back and look at. Achievement badges are small enough to feel earned rather than patronizing. Running used to feel like punishment, and now it feels like a skill I'm building. An app accomplishing that shift matters more to me than any particular feature.
