#289 of 315Thrifted Denim Jacket
Personal photo of a faded blue denim jacket hanging on a wooden hanger against a white wall, the uneven fading and mismatched button visible on the front.
I found a denim jacket at a thrift store that feels like it was already broken in by someone who wore it every day for years. Cotton this soft feels completely different from a new jacket, and I keep running my hand over the sleeve when I am wearing it. Fading is uneven, darker at the seams where the fabric doubled over and lighter across the back and shoulders where the sun hit it. Those variations tell you the jacket lived outside rather than in a closet. Twelve dollars and it fits better than denim jackets I've tried on at stores for $80. Pockets are deep enough to actually hold things, phone in the chest pocket, keys in the side. Slightly tarnished brass buttons have a patina. One of them was replaced with a mismatched silver button at some point, and that repair makes it feel like the jacket has a history I inherited. Soft flannel lines the interior and when I put it on in the morning the warmth is immediate.
