A reversible belt with a rotating buckle that switches between black and brown leather is a design solution so simple that it's surprising it took as long as it did to become standard. Buckle mechanism is a small release tab that lets you rotate the strap 180 degrees within the buckle frame. Two sides of the belt are finished in different colors so 1 belt replaces 2. Cleverness is in the buckle engineering because the hinge has to be invisible when the belt is worn. Good versions achieve this by hiding the rotation point inside the buckle's back plate. Logic of reducing a 2-item wardrobe need to 1 item without sacrificing appearance is what I find worth admiring. At $30-40 for a decent reversible belt it's one of the better value propositions in accessories. Leather quality varies widely across brands, but even a mid-tier version saves closet space and decision-making time, and those small efficiencies compound over years of daily use.
