#239 of 315Neighborhood Yard Sale Signs
Personal photo of a handwritten neon yellow yard sale sign taped to a wooden telephone pole, with a thick black marker arrow pointing left and the address written in large block letters.
Handwritten yard sale signs taped to telephone poles in my neighborhood are better wayfinding than most professional signage because they are direct, personal, and impossible to confuse with anything else. Arrows are drawn in thick marker on neon poster board. Information is limited to the date, address, and sometimes a list of categories, and that constraint forces clarity. I want to see more communication designed with this kind of economy because the signs do their job in under 2 seconds while you are driving past at 25 miles per hour. That's a harder design problem than it looks.
