“The Shed” cultural center in New York City’s Hudson Yards is a retractable shell featuring multiple layers of exhibition space, and a venue for large performances and installation events. When not in use, or during open-air events, the structure rolls back into the Bloomberg Building. While I’m not the biggest fan of Hudson Yards’ projects, this one is far more sustainable than traditional stadium projects, altering our assumptions of what grand venues for cultural appreciation should look like. I am fascinated by the convergence and unity of immensely diverse experiences, and concerts to me are manifestations of those values, no matter how ephemeral.
