This is a new song and music video by the Korean artist IU that recently came out. While I don’t really follow her music, this really caught my attention and stuck out because of the imagery and symbolism of two of her fellow artists who have passed away from suicide in recent years. I thought the tribute was well executed not simply because it exists, but because it was done in a subtle and respectful, yet still noticeable way — it did not need to be publicized or explicitly confirmed that it was meant to be a tribute, but its audience was able to pick up on this and start a discourse. I think this appeals to my design perspective because it is a very a creative and meaningful take on a music video, tackling a difficult subject with nuance in an industry saturated with flashy images simply meant to appeal to the senses.
