Chopsticks follow my design principles in that they are deceptively simple, incredibly handy and, more importantly, fulfill a real need. I often find it ironic how poorly designed (in a macro sense) Western cutlery is. Heavy, and like little weapons or farming equipment. Moreover, most food does not need to be forked, cut into pieces or spooned (which is inelegant and difficult to balance). Differently put, chopsticks are a great design: simple and functional.
