Public transportation is a vastly underutilized resource, in part because it can often be so confusing. Even if people can figure out how to get somewhere with the subway, there might be a bus route that gets someone there in half the time. The app, Transit, solves this problem by giving people all the possible routes to get to a destination, including the subway, buses, and Uber/Lyft, and lists the time it takes and the price. Best of all, it walks the users through each step of the process. For example, if I have to walk to the bus stop, get on the bus, then transfer to the T, the app will give me a map and tell me where to walk, tell me what time the bus is coming, tell me when my stop is coming up, then tell me where to get on the T. The app even sends a notification if I’m walking too slowly and may miss the bus or train! This app also provides plenty of information to its users, giving them the opportunity to make an informed choice about how to get from point A to point B. By streamlining the transportation planning process, it also makes traveling much more convenient for people who don’t often use public transportation, and promotes making the more sustainable choice of a bus or a train over a car.
