In the past 2 months, Albertsons’ drive up and go program has been heavily advertised and encouraged as a way for shoppers to pick their groceries online and have them delivered to their car with limited social interaction inside the store due to COVID-19. The program is appealing because it encourages a reflective experience in which shoppers feel better that they did not enter the store and expose themselves or others to the virus, and it also draws on Cialdini’s social proof principals by encouraging other people to do their part in stopping the spread of the virus since others are too.
