I find To-Do lists inspiring in that they allow me to visually enumerate what I would like to get done thus spurring the motivation in me to complete these tasks. Seeing the list as finite is definitely a component of diminishing the sense of overwhelm which may prevent me from even starting to chip away at the list. There is also a distinct pleasure in “checking off” tasks, however that may manifest, which makes these lists “inspiring” as an external source of accountability rather than skill/beauty. Or perhaps the element of skill is at play here in that I want to and expect to feel “skillful” upon completion of my To-Do list.
