Vaute was the world’s first vegan fashion house and primarily focussed on winter coats. I first found them when I became vegan and wanted to find a coat that was cruelty-free and warm. They are focussed on sustainability and use recycled materials like plastic from water bottles and discarded fabrics and employ artisans in New York to sew the coats that employ Arctic technology. As a result, they have really warm coats that are also thin! It is so inspiring to me because it’s very difficult to find coats that don’t use down. The only issue is that their price for a really warm coat was 300$ which makes sense considering the workmanship and ethics but it was more than I could afford at the time. Unfortunately, in checking up on them to write this, I found out they very recently closed. I hope someone steps in to fill the gap left by this inspiring company.
