I really prefer these bookshelves over the traditional longer, blockier bookcases .I think they make the books seem more accessible; in the sense that they are more inviting to pick up when stored on their side in a stack. This might be counterintuitive because technically bookcases, where all the books standing side by side each other, are easier to pull any individual book from. The vertical stack, though, makes the books seem already “out.” Like a stack of books on a desk. They have already been retrieved from some more permanent storage place (a normal bookcase) and are waiting to be read. I find these types of bookshelves more inspiring to me because this kind of book presentation serves as a stimulus for me picking up a book to read, which puts me on a path to a sense of accomplishment and hence elevation.
