Rarely one does encounter an app or a webpage, in which reading experience doesn’t disappoint. Medium’s UX surprises seasoned online readers, since simple, focused on the text, and allows one fine-grained commenting experience (one just needs to tap to select a sentence to respond to). What disappoints on Medium in 2020 is content ordering and recommendation engine. It promotes clickbait and excessive keyword use in headlines, thus it takes a lot of patience to seep through such content until one finds desired gems. For a new user of the platform that is a major turnoff.
Original review focuses more on the writer’s / publisher’s experience. I concentrate on the reader’s perspective.
