I love learning languages. I hate paying to do it. The closest I have come is Duolingo, which is really impressive. The most effective component for me has been the gamification on this app – I don’t play a single video game, and the fitbit or LinkedIn badge systems have never done anything for me. Interestingly, the Duolingo game design – a combination of badges, gems, and levels – really appeals to me. I find myself idly practicing languages and strengthening my skills. This design taps into my motivation with sharp precision.
