“Thor’s hammer” headlights, named from the hammer used by the Norse god of thunder, is a unique design by Volvo. The lights are added to all the current Volvo models produced, and it looks powerful and elegant, as well as minimalistic. This classic Swedish design combined with new LED technology gives the Volvo models a great sense of pride and luxury. The new designs finally take Volvo out of the boring station wagon era and into the low end luxury car market (especially with their higher end models like the xc90 and xc60). This new design of the front end of the car makes it look unmistakably Volvo. As the vice president of design at Volvo said at the launch of the XC90 and the new headlights, ”Anyone who looks in their rear-view mirror is going to know immediately that there is a new XC90 behind them”.
