I’m a huge fan of the electric kettle because its design is in every way an improvement over the traditional kettle. First, in terms of pure utility, it boils water faster, even if it can’t reach as high a temperature. (But how much does that matter after you pass boiling point?) Second, the one button mechanism common to most electric kettles is safe and foolproof—you literally tap one button, it lights up, and the light turns off when the kettle is done, which eliminates the problem of accidentally leaving the stove on and the high pitched whistle that indicates boiling on a traditional kettle. Third, it’s energy efficient and much more environmentally friendly.
