The idea of instant film started when inventor Edwin Land’s three-year-old daughter asked why she couldn’t immediately see the photo her father had just taken of her. This was in the mid 20th century, and since then, the popularity of polaroids has only increased—especially with its revival in the 2000s. And with the sense of instant gratification that comes with being able to hold your photos right after you’ve taken them, it’s easy to see why (not to mention the inherently Instagram-worthy nature of their aesthetic!). I personally love all the fun films that are available for purchase nowadays—colored, patterned, black and white, the possibilities are endless.
