I wear Oakleys everyday in the boat when I’m rowing. The sun reflecting off of the water can make it extremely difficult to see while we are rowing. Sunglasses are especially important if you don’t have a coxswain in the boat to steer. In a cox-less boat, the rower has to turn around and keep their bow point in the right direction, therefore it’s very important to be able to see. Oakleys have become the main sunglass brand for rowers, the frames make people look very intense and intimidating. When a rower gets their first Oakleys, it marks their transition to becoming legitimized. Usually novice rowers get their first Oakleys when they enter the varsity team.
