I can’t think of a good example at the moment (when I do i’ll edit this), but one of my favorite website practices is when you don’t have to form an account at the beginning, but can instead play with the functionality, learn the benefits of the site, and decide whether or not it’s something you’d be interested in all before making the account. Tying into Fogg’s framework, my motivation for making new accounts is generally quite low. I find most new sites via recommendations from friends and are not generally services I need but that I might want. Given this low motivation, often even just making an account (particularly on mobile devices) is enough to deter or delay me from using the service. In contrast, if i can dive right in, I can see the app’s value then form an account to save my work or checkout.
