This week’s themes of designing portfolios and presentations had me looking at my favorite magazine’s layout for inspiration. Kinfolk is a print and web based lifestyle magazine that is so gorgeously designed that it has me practically drooling every time I flip its pages.
The layouts are clean, crisp, modern, and minimalist, which is an aesthetic that I tried to emulate in my own designs of the portfolio and presentation layout. Kinfolk curates photographs and articles that reflect its theme of “slow living,” a term defined broadly. These magazines inspire me creatively with their beautiful aesthetics, and remind me that consistent design can—and should—be used to convey an overall message, which for Kinfolk is one of “slow living.”
