My proposed application is called picnews. I focused on the challenge (proposed in class) of communicating news stories with a semi-literate population. The goal of picnews is to minimize the amount of text in the news stories without using video technology. The home page, presented below, is as simple as possible. Icons represent the six categories of news stories. Each news story is composed of a storyline of 6-10 photos with a short sentence on top of each photo. This way, the content of each story is thoroughly presented, but photos bolster readers’ understanding of the content. As depicted in the video above, readers can scroll down the page to view the entire story.


The story I chose to present was that of the Australian Open finals. The images themselves convey a story. However, these images are also accompanied by text explanation.
