The Daily Short is a news app, which takes the user’s age, location, and interests into account when building a news feed. Graphics are used as the main form of distributing information, allowing people with low-level reading skills to use the app. A collection of the user’s local news stories are synthesized into “The Short”, which allows quick digestion of important and relevant topics.
The stories are presented through large pictures, peaking the user’s interest through visuals rather than text. On the homepage, the user is given the option of looking at “The Short”, or browsing news stories that align with their chosen “favorites”.
Local news, which will likely have a high impact on the life of the user, is displayed using short statements and icons. The reader may click on the statements to read more, or opt to only read the summaries. This method of supplying local news allows the user to stay up-to-date within a matter of about 5 minutes.
