Sherpa is an app that seeks to compile Instagram photos into a social travel guide. It seeks to enhance the experience of travel and integrate it with social media by allowing users to see where others have traveled and posted about on their Instagram accounts. Users can search for images based on location, or view people’s profiles. Trips are conveniently organized into trip summaries, which are shareable and mappable.
Although this app has not been released yet, I think it is a brilliant idea because it combines our love for travel with our obsession with sharing about our travels and poring over other people’s experiences. Oftentimes, planning trips can feel like an isolated experience; Sherpa allows us to draw from a bank of experiences and ideas to inform our decisions. Moreover, organic content from real acquaintances is often more trustworthy than “official” or sponsored content.
