According to CNN, America’s coffee obsession is a $30 billion industry, and 400 million cups of coffee are consumed every day.

Needless to say, most of us are all too familiar with the need for a daily caffeine kick. Yet despite this, there are still real problems associated with the daily act of making, buying, and/or consuming coffee. For those who own coffee machines, making coffee requires an initial investment, and 10+ minutes each morning of preparing coffee and cleaning up. For those who buy coffee, stopping by a coffee shop entails making a detour, waiting in line, and racking up substantial costs over time.

Here’s where UberFUEL comes in. The digital age is widely accredited with providing people with unprecedented amounts of control, convenience, and simplicity, and coffee should be no exception. With UberFUEL, Uber riders can order a $2 cup of hot coffee on their next ride, freshly brewed in the car itself.

How it works: Coffee machines are installed inside the cars themselves, attaching to cup holders and plugging into car adapter outlets so they can use the car’s energy itself. The initial investment of the machines is paid off by coffee sales (e.g., $30 spent on a machine will be offset by 15 cups of coffee), and Uber would partner with both machine suppliers and coffee bean suppliers to acquire bulk discounts.

When the Uber rider orders an Uber as usual, right before finalizing the request, they will be given the option to order a $2 cup of coffee as well. If they choose to do so, an Uber with a coffee machine will be sent to them, and a hot cup of coffee will be waiting for the rider upon entering the car. After the ride, the $2 is added instantaneously to the cost of the ride, which is paid via mobile.

Why it helps: UberFUEL provides the cost-saving benefits of making coffee at home, except without the extra labor and wait time. It also allows the user to drink coffee whenever he or she is on the go, without having to make a detour or wait in line. Because the user isn’t driving, he or she is free to drink during the commute.

On the business side, UberFUEL can also improve driver ratings, boost Uber rides in general, and eventually generate profit from coffee sales.

Below are some experience maps of the coffee drinker’s experience, and how UberFUEL seeks to improve it:
