Since we have been exploring 3D design through SolidWorks, I found this item particularly relevant. This “clock” presents an intriguing twist on the sundial. Through a clever manipulation between shadows and light, the clock, when placed under the sun in the proper position, can display time in visual way that mimics the digital clock! I love how this clock brings together the old and new ways of telling time. Unfortunately, this clock changes only every 20 minutes, but I think it can still be useful and interesting item to have in a backyard. Produced from a 3D printer, the clock’s aesthetics look out of place in a natural setting. I would want to change its material (and design) to make it appear perhaps more like a traditional sundial, making the digital display more surprising.
The inventor has also provided the files so that you can print the parts yourself! More information about the item here.
