The Philips Hue Bulb is the first smart bulb to be controlled by one’s smartphone. You can change the color, light levels, and hue of any bulb in a room with your phone. The Hue system contains four components: Apps (that can be developed to control bulb features via sensors and suer input), the Bridge (which allowed the system of lightbulbs to communicate with each other via internet), the Portal (which connect your home to the Internet with Philips API), and the lights themselves.
From a design perspective, this product takes direct advantage of Internet of Things (IoT), which is revolutionizing the way human interact with the world around them. Using a central home IoT system, one can lock doors, adjust appliances such dish washers and washing machines/dryers, and adjust the temperature of the house. With everything connected to the internet, possibilities of usage are unlimited.
