The MagSafe patent is owned by Apple, and integrated into their lines of MacBooks since 2006. MagSafe is a series of proprietary magnetically attached power connectors that are held in place so that if tugged — for example, by someone tripping over the cord — it will pull out of the socket without damaging the connector or the computer power socket, and without pulling the computer off the surface on which it is located. Also, having the LED light on the head of the connector is an easy systems indication of the Macbook’s current battery level.
