My first pair for parallel tasting is frozen yogurts from Berryline and Pinkberry.
Let’s start with Berryline. The frozen yogurt from Berryline smells a little sour and somewhat reminiscent of yogurt. The texture looks smooth and creamy. After the first spoon, I can tell that the texture is pretty thick. It is sweet at first, and then leave the lingering sour taste in my mouth. After the second spoon, I tried exhaling the smell in my mouth after slowly swallowing the froyo. It smells really milky. This is the best thing I like about Berryline. It makes me feel like the froyo is actually the real healthy, dairy product.
Pinkberry frozen yogurt does not look as smooth and creamy as Berryline. Its texture looks somewhat like the mixture of ice and ice cream. It also does not smell much. Unlike Berryline, it does not smell sour at all. After the first spoon, it is surely sweeter than Berryline. Its texture tastes lighter than Berryline. I try smelling Pinkberry inside my mouth by exhaling after slowly swallowing it. It smells a little sour, but does not smell milky. Overall, its taste reminds me of “yogurt milk” from Asian markets which is pretty much sugar-added artificial-flavored water.
My second pair for parallel tasting is strawberry ice-creams from Häagen-Dazs and J.P. Licks.
Let’s start with Häagen-Dazs. It looks a little dark pink. It smells very sweet and very strawberry. It tastes very creamy and very sweet. It does not taste sour at all. The texture tastes really creamy. Overall, it is like a milk ice-cream with strawberry flavor added. This reminds me of strawberry milk I usually had when I was young.
J.P. Licks strawberry ice cream looks light pink. Its texture looks smoother and more grainy. It smells sour strawberry and very refreshing. The ice cream taste sweet and sour. There are a lot of small strawberries in the ice cream, giving sour and very sweet tastes. Its texture tastes creamy and chewy. The strawberry sourness of the J.P. Licks ice cream is the key. The ice cream tastes really strawberries and much more refreshing than Häagen-Dazs. After trying J.P Licks, I feel like the strawberry smell of Häagen-Dazs is artificial. When I exhale the ice cream after swallowing it, I can smell milk and strawberry flavor lingering my mouth. Overall, it tastes like strawberry jam plus milk, although I have never tried the combination before.
My conclusion
Of all the four, I find Berryline Frozen Yogurt most desirable. This is because it tastes like real dairy product. It is creamy, thick and milky. The sourness of yogurt makes me feel that the froyo is somewhat healthy. As a result, I don’t feel reluctant to dig in. The second desirable product is J.P. Licks strawberry ice cream. It brings the freshness of strawberry out, but at the same time lets you enjoy the milky, chewy ice cream. I would like it more, if it were to be a little more milky like Haagen Dazs but does not compromise the sour and refreshing sense of the strawberries that it currently has.
