“The Key in the Hand” is an art installation currently being exhibited in the 2015 Venice Bienale. Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota focused on keys, because these   mundane, yet important objects, which figuratively open doors to new worlds. Shiota’s vision for the keys was to make them transcend their function, she therefore asked people to consider donating keys to her installation. By bringing together a multitude of keys, Shiota figuratively envisioned opening doors for many and create an open space for everyone. I came across an image of this installation on Instagram and although I didn’t understand the purpose of the installation until after performing some research, I felt that this object was especially desirable using provocative colors and by its massive size which overwhelms and amazes the spectator.
