This week, I wanted to take a moment to appreciate the classic Chuck Taylor All Stars. These high top sneakers have barely lost popularity since they first came out in the early 20th Century. Although first marketed as basketball shoes, the Chuck Taylors have become shoes of a generation. The shoes are functional, minimal, and enduring. They make a statement without even saying much. I personally got my first pair of Chuck Taylors in middle school, and I wore them in middle school, high school, and college. I’ve replaced and replaced and I still love them. I think I’m onto my 7th pair now. Something unique about the Chuck Taylors is the want to replace. For many shoes, once a pair runs its course people will then buy a completely new shoe. But for the Chuck Taylors, wearing them out is almost part of the experience and something that people enjoy. When your Chuck Taylors get to their end, you’re proud of how far they’ve come, yet excited to buy a new pair– and this is where we see the longevity of these sneakers. I think that the Chuck Taylors are really here to stay.
