These handmade porcelain canaries and teacup by ceramist Rumi Koshino are among my most treasured possessions. The figures were purchased in a silent auction, an exciting event that greatly elevated their general desirability. The cup was purchased later from the artist, but seems to portray the two dead canaries. The pieces portray a narrative that is both sweet and macabre, seemingly simple objects with great material craft and conceptual depth.
