What I’ve Got: Sh*t people say meme.

Ok, this viral meme is old, but it was wildly successful. Modeled after the popular twitter handle @shitmydadsays, two friends launched @shitgirlssay, a comedy handle that parodied stereotypes of what young women may say. The meme was not without controversy, but the duo also launched a video series. In a matter of days, hundreds of response videos were posted, including the D.C.-centric video above, which features dozens of lines familiar to anyone who lives in D.C. I think the meme was desirable because it was controversial (people felt attacked by the nature of some of the iterations,) and also appealed to peoples’ sense of belonging. Compiling all of the tag-lines of a community into one video made anyone who had uttered one of those lines feel a part of something.
