The “cult of imperfectionism” is a social phenomenon, perhaps inspired by the Internet, embracing our hair flying, stair tripping, morning coffee requiring selves. We’re tired of trying to maintain perfect wrinkle-free selves at all times both in the physical and digital world. And so, imperfection has become desired.
Jennifer Lawrence is a great example of this. Countless Buzzfeed articles, Tumblr posts, and animated GIFs show off her “human” side. She is silly, genuine, hilarious, and extremely down-to-earth.
She has positioned herself as a symbol of imperfectionism and the many articles praising her on the Internet prove that she has become very desirable.
