Moon Activated Charcoal Toothpaste is a toothpaste which advertises health benefits and uses sleek marketing at average market whitening toothpaste prices. I first learned of charcoal toothpaste when someone commented on an Instagram post of Drake’s that he had something in his teeth, and Drake responded, “I brush with activated charcoal every club night.” At this point I was aware of charcoal toothpaste, but assumed it was a luxury product for celebrities. Then, I was in Target and saw Moon Activated Charcoal Toothpaste for sale for $7.99, and made the purchase. This experience exemplifies two themes from the Chapter 2 reading: authority, in that I trusted Drake to know something about toothpaste, and money, in that the fact that the product cost what I would normally spend on toothpaste influenced me to try it.
