Something I hear very often when I hear people talk about design is that good design is very little design, or at least having as minimal of an impact on the aesthetics/appearance of the product, and letting the product “speak for itself.” I think Maine Brewing Company has certainly taken this philosophy to heart with its extremely light handed approach to its bottle design and naming. The label for the bottles are very plain, pure white and with small text. The bottle shape is almost akin to that of a wine bottle, with gentle curves and a slender neck. In addition, the names of the beer are extremely simple. Dinner. Lunch. Another one. Focusing on making a few beers really well, their slogan really captures what this company is all about. Do what’s right.
