I visited my friend’s house this weekend and while we ate our eggs for breakfast, I asked for pepper and he brought out this pepper grinder which I found absolutely fascinating. Made of cast iron, there isn’t much that sets it apart from a normal pepper grinder other than the feel for the device itself. It has quite a bit of weight to it and turning the hand crank is an extremely satisfying experience. Furthermore, the small door into which one can pour additional peppercorns glides as it opens or closes, but not in such a way that it can hang or flop open if one doesn’t want it to. I’m unsure where he got it from but I can say that he was more than a little confused as I tried to explain to him how enjoyable I found the experience of using it.
