On the desk in my room the main lamp I use for illuminating my study space is pretty simple, nothing too out of the ordinary, though the one thing that I recently thought about as being extremely functional yet aesthetic is the bendable stem of the lamp. Most lamps feature a static, straight stem or hinges to position it wherever the user needs light, but going the next step to make the entire lamp stem articulating really makes this lamp both very functional as well as nice to look at. I think it is quite a feat of engineering to create such a structure that can remain exactly where one wants it to stay without needing some type of locking mechanism, and the bendable stem has definitely benefitted the lives of many the late-night student.
