Boomerang is an app developed by Instagram that allows users to make videos from short photo-bursts, which plays forwards and then backwards in a loop. It’s been on my mind since we did the Instagram desirability test—because it’s so popular, and it’s so cool, but objectively, the idea seems a little bit strange. I think that what makes Boomerang really unique is the forwards-backwards aspect—it almost reminds you of those old photographs that quickly alternated between two slightly different angles in order to show a sense of perspective. The actual layout of the app is simple and easy to use, with only one button and three settings. Perfect loops like the ones that Boomerang uses are just simply fun, and its huge user base proves it.
