The firs time I encountered a rumble strip, I sat in the backseat of a car on its way to New Hampshire on a 2 lane highway without street lights. The sounds jolted me awake; I was afraid and thought that sounds meant you shouldn’t cross the lanes. I later learned that this phenomenon is called a rumble strip and are put on highways to wake up drivers who are accidentally crossing into another lane. This is especially helpful for truck drivers on long legs of their trips and can help increase the overall safety of highways and freeways. I think this is a great design because it provides a solution to a problem without disrupting the current system and can be implemented at a low cost.
