I came across this video of a “dancing traffic light” a couple years ago and it’s stuck in my mind ever since.
It’s only been implemented in Lisbon, but the result shows that 81% more people stopped at the red light when it danced. What’s really cool is that the dancing figure isn’t pre-programmed, but based on public participation. Anyone can walk into the installation and be filmed.
While this successfully generated a lot of attention for an ad campaign that focused on safety, I don’t think it’s very practical on a larger scale or be part of everyday life. Nevertheless, for a short duration that generated public awareness and dialogue, it was a great idea.
