As a kid, I loved playing Monopoly, but the game is just too long. By the midway point of the marathon game session, it’s usually quite clear who will win, but you’re in for another couple of agonizingly slow hours before you can actually claim your victory. Also, being a board game, it’s not exactly portable: my copy was abandoned several moves ago. Monopoly Deal is the solution I wish I’d had 15 years ago. Condensed to just a deck of cards, the game has even more tactical maneuvering than the original. Action cards allow you to spontaneously steal or trade properties, and it’s completely possible to rally from behind and capture an unexpected last-minute win, Zenyatta-style.
