Here’s a picture of the classic LL Bean Norwegian Sweater. I got my first Norwegian Sweater in 10th grade and I’ve worn it every New England winter since then. In the winter, I’m a huge fan of layering. In the fall, it’s a substitute for a light winter jacket given its thickness–perhaps a terrific compromise between form and function. The sweater has remained unchanged for the last half-century. It became immortalized in the Official Preppy Hand Book. They’re manufactured in Norway–hence the “Norwegian title.” LL Bean discontinued the sweater in the 1990s but brought it back shortly afterwards following high demand.
