Behold, Australia’s first “carbon-positive” prefabricated house! The model reminds me of designs I’ve seen in recent shipping container remodeling trends. Similar to those usually-astonishing shipping container houses, this house is on the smaller side, yet manages to feel spacious and to be aesthetically appealing. The house features double-glazed windows, solar panelling, a green roof, in-ground tubes that use outside air for cooling, and sliding, vertical garden walls for shade/cooling. The interior design uses sustainably sourced materials and the appliances use rainwater recycling.

I believe (and truly hope) this type of sustainable approach to design is going to be the standard as society searches for ways to address climate change and, more generally, participate as sustainable inhabitants of the earth system.
